Is there an app that reads my Scrabble GO board from a screenshot?
Yes. Next Tile is a free web app that reads a Scrabble GO screenshot: the board, your rack and both scores. It shows the move most likely to win and exactly where to play it. It runs in your phone's browser, with nothing to install.
What you get back
Say you open with A, E, G, L, U, Y and Z on your rack. These are the top three plays Next Tile shows:
| Play | Points | Chance to win |
|---|---|---|
| GAUZY, down from the center | 44 | 73% |
| GAUZY, down from H4 | 40 | 72% |
| GLAZY, down from the center | 44 | 70% |
GAUZY and GLAZY both score 44. GAUZY wins more often because it keeps E and L for your next turn, where GLAZY keeps E and U.
What it reads
- Every tile on the board, by shape rather than color, so it works with any tile skin.
- Your rack, from the bottom of the screenshot.
- Both scores, from the top, because your chance to win depends on them.
- Then you check it. It shows the board it read. Tap Fix a square to correct any letter.
How to use it
- Take a screenshot with the whole board and your rack showing.
- Upload it at nexttile.app/scrabble-go.
- On Android, share it straight in. Add Next Tile to your home screen from Chrome's menu, then share screenshots to it.
- Play the move it highlights. Each tile is shown where it goes.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't connect to Scrabble GO. It only reads screenshots you take.
- It doesn't keep your screenshot. It reads the board and throws the image away.
- It doesn't support the UK dictionary yet. It uses NWL2023, the word list behind Scrabble GO's English (US) setting. Collins isn't supported.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. No account needed.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. Take a screenshot, then upload it from your photos.
Which tile skins does it read?
It's built to read any skin, by shape rather than color. It's new, so check the board it shows before you play.
Can I use it during a game?
It only reads screenshots you take and never connects to Scrabble GO. Whether to use help mid-game is between you and your opponent; many players use it to review games and learn.
